New National Educator Register & Victoria's Early Childhood Workforce Register

Written by Z Staffing | 31/10/25

In response to growing childcare safety concerns, the Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) and the Victorian Government are rolling out New Educator Registries.

These Federal and State-specific databases aim to improve record-keeping of those working in early childhood sectors. Learn more about them below and how Z Staffing is supporting these changes.

What Is the New National Educator Register?

The new National Educator Register is an ACECQA initiative to increase visibility and oversight of educators in the early childhood sector. It involves an electronic database for storing their identity and qualification details.

What Is Victoria's Early Childhood Workforce Register?

The Victoria Early Childhood Workforce Registry is a State initiative for keeping a record of educators in Victoria. Similar to the National Educator Register, Victoria childcare centres must update and maintain an educator database to ensure better oversight of who's working in the sector.

Why the New Registries

The update is to increase child safety in the childhood education sector. It aims to reduce information gaps and improve record-keeping and accountability for those working in the childcare sector.

How It Works

Accredited or approved childcare providers must update and maintain their databases with the following childcare worker information:

  • First and last name
  • Mobile number
  • Position at the centre
  • Full street address
  • Email Address
  • Gender
  • Qualifications
  • Approved training
  • Position/role
  • Work history
  • Commencement and cessation dates.

When Will the Registries Take Effect?

Essential implementation dates include the following:

  • Victoria Registry: The Victorian Government requires centres to record and implement the registry by 5 December 2025.
  • National Educator Registry: The Federal Government will begin testing the registry in December 2025, with a national rollout planned for February 2026.

Who It Applies To

Records for the following childcare workers will be required:

  • Educators
  • Volunteers and students
  • Non-educator staff
  • Nominated supervisors
  • Co-ordinators
  • FDC educator assistants
  • Teachers (regardless of whether or not they are registered or accredited with a teacher registration body).

How We're Implementing These Registers

Our technical team is working to build the required fields into our Z Portal Dashboard. This integration ensures seamless record updates and maintenance.
